Q. We Need more room in our house, should we build up or expand out?

A. In most cases, it is cheaper to put a second story addition on an existing house because you do not have the expense of the foundation. Before making your final decision you may want to consider the following:

• Can your existing foundation support a second floor addition?
• Are there height limits in your area?
• Which will work better with the style of the house, second story or building out?
• How much will expanding our reduce yard space?
• If you choose to build out will it meet the set back requirements?

Q. How long will the job take to finish?

A. It depends on the size and type of the job. No matter how big or small your project is, we will provide you with a written estimate once the parameters have been established and agreed to. Please use our contact page to ask for a quote!

 

Q. What if I want to make changes once the work has begun?

A. You may make changes at any point in the project, but doing so will usually increase your costs. We will provide you with change orders that outline the proposed changes in detail and provide a cost breakdown so you can see how the changes will affect the final cost and make a decision on whether to implement the changes or not. You should also be aware that, in most cases, deviations from the original project parameters will also affect the actual completion time for the project.

 

Q. Do you use subcontractors?

A. The use of subcontractors is a widespread practice in the construction industry. We do sometimes employ plumbers and electricians on a subcontractor basis. It allows us to offer more competitive prices to our customers. All of our subcontractors are expert craftsman who work with us regularly, and all work under our direct supervision.

 

Q. Can I do any of the remodeling work myself to help control costs?

A. Depending on your abilities and physical condition, you may be able to perform certain tasks yourself as a means of reducing the cost of labor. Most of these tasks will involve preparation or demolition activities such as removing fixtures or flooring. You should be aware that it can be time consuming, and the cost savings may be outweighed by the inconvenience to you.

 

Q. How will remodeling affect the value of my home?

A. Research shows that remodeling your kitchen or bathroom will have the most profound affect on the value of your home. Depending on the scope of the remodel, you may be able to increase your asking price by thousands of dollars when it comes time to sell. If remodeling for the purpose of increasing the sales price of your home, you should focus on improving functionality, updating fixtures and appliances, and achieving a unified look and feel. Don't make dramatic style statement that could backfire.

 

Q. Do you come over to my home to assess the job before quoting a price?

A. Yes, we need to see what needs to be done to give you the most accurate quote.

Q. What if I am not satisfied with the work?

A. We make a punch out list of all the areas of concern and correct them at the end of the job. Your satisfaction is our goal.

Q. How do you charge for labor?
